Eugenia Hanganu is a portrait and street photographer based in Lisbon, Portugal, who has spent seven years building a practice rooted in cinematic candid portraiture, street photography, and documentary work.

The camera gave me a reason to stop and actually look, to pay attention to a stranger long enough to feel something for them.

The Nikon Z8 is the most reliable camera I've ever shot with. My right hand on every job. It has never once let me down.

Eugenia's approach to photography is inseparable from her experience of arriving in a city she didn't yet know. She photographs people she doesn't know in a place that wasn't always hers, drawn to small, unguarded moments: someone alone in a doorway, late light on a wall, the kind of ordinary instant that most people walk past. In her client portrait sessions, she waits for the second between poses, when the face drops and something real surfaces.

Her relationship with Nikon began in 2018, when a planned trip to the Azores led her to purchase the Nikon D3300, a camera and a journey that shifted how she saw. By the end of 2020, Nikon invited her to join the Nikon Creator program, and she has evolved steadily through the ecosystem since, moving from the Nikon Z 5 to the Nikon Z fc, and shooting with the Nikon Z 8 since 2023. Her current kit is intentionally lean: the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.2 S for its versatility and rendering, the NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.8 S for softer, dreamier portraits, and the NIKKOR Z 70–200mm f/2.8 S for its compression, discretion, and remarkably clean files. She knows her tools well enough that the decisions are already made before she raises the camera, leaving her free to think only about the picture.
