Estonian nature photographer Sven Začek has spent more than two decades immersing himself in the wild landscapes of Estonia and Scandinavia, building a reputation as one of Europe's most respected wildlife photographers.

I have been working closely with Ural owls for 21 years and I still find myself seeing new things. The more you know, the more you see.

I was impressed with the Nikon D3's autofocus and low-light capabilities and haven't looked back since.

Sven Začek approaches photography with the mindset of a naturalist as much as an artist. His philosophy is rooted in genuine curiosity and a continuous desire to go deeper into his subjects' world, learning more so that he can witness situations he has never encountered before. This commitment to understanding, rather than simply observing, is what gives his images their rare sense of intimacy and authenticity.

His relationship with Nikon began when he was still using another system. After experiencing autofocus issues with his previous equipment, Nikon approached him and offered a Nikon D3 to test. The camera's autofocus performance and low-light capabilities were immediately convincing, and he made the switch without hesitation. Since then, Sven has worked across an extensive range of Nikon cameras and lenses, progressing through the DSLR lineup from the Nikon D3 through to the Nikon D850, before transitioning into the Nikon Z system with the Nikon Z 7II, the Nikon Z 9, and the Nikon Z 8. Today he uses a range of NIKKOR Z lenses, including the NIKKOR Z 400mm f/2.8 TC VR S and the NIKKOR Z 800mm f/6.3 VR S, valuing above all the image quality, speed, and durability that Nikon equipment consistently delivers in demanding field conditions.
